BFI Black Star Programme Launches

Voice4Change Director Kunle Olulode is one of the course convenors for the BFI Black Star Programme, taking place between October and December this year. Black Star is a celebration of black actors taking place in cinemas across the country, on DVD and on BFI Player. It is the UK’s biggest ever season of TV and film dedicated to celebrating black actors, and will showcase strong black characters to the widest possible audience. The season will celebrate successful and well-known black actors such Will Smith; Whoopi Goldberg; Helle Berry, Idris Elba, David Oyelowo and Samuel L Jackson, as well as emerging talent such as Nse Ikpe-Etim and Lupita Nyong’o.  It will look at the work of black actors throughout history, and explore why opportunities have been limited for black actors in central roles.

Alongside his work at Voice4Change, Kunle has always been a champion of the arts, especially Black Film. As one of the course convenors of this programme, he will have a lot of input into how it runs from now until the end of the year. We all hope that it is successful in highlighting the black talent which is so often overlooked in mainstream film.
