Get clued up: How can charities comply with the new lobbying act ahead of next years’ general election

The ‘Lobbying Act’ – official name: Transparency of Lobbying, Non-Party Campaigning and Trade Union Administration Act 2014 – has major implications for all charities. And it applies right now, so if you are a charity it is your business to know about it because falling foul of the new law could mean a criminal fine.

The Lobbying Act introduced new rules governing what’s called ‘controlled expenditure’ in the run-up to general and European elections. What does this cover? And will this restrict your charity’s work between now and the general election next May? A policy expert will give you the low-down on what you need to know to stay on the right side of the law and not compromise your campaigning work during an election campaign. Come join us for a FREE workshop at 3.45pm.

Before the Lobbying Act workshop we have an Asset Management workshop at 2.30pm that will look at best practices and how the process works and what financial support is available.

We will then host a special discussion on ‘Child sexual exploitation in Rotherham and the VCS sector response’ with expert panellist including Zlakha Ahmed from Apna Haq and Vivienne Hayes from Women Resource Centre, followed by free snacks and refreshments.

We will resume at 6.30pm to 8.30pm for the Annual General Meeting which will end with a special keynote speaker (TBC) discussing the controversial ‘human zoo’ Exhibit B.
