NBTA seek organisation to increase Living Transplants from BME communities

NBTA has been allocated up to £90k to increase living transplants from BAME communities by March 2018

Living Transplants have been decreasing in the past two years. They are particularly scarce among BME communities, something which is costing people their lives. NBTA - the coordinating voice for BME transplant donation - are offering an opportunity for an organisation to reverse this trend, and increase the number of living transplants among BME communities. They have been allocated up to £90k of funding for an organisation which can tackle this issue, and meet their outcomes by March 2018.

The open letter to the Chancellor comes ahead of the Autumn Statement, when the Chancellor will lay out the Government’s financial priorities in the first Post-Brexit Budget.

Voice4Change Director Kunle Olulode is one of the course convenors for the BFI Black Star Programme, taking place between October and December this year. Black Star is a celebration of black actors taking place in cinemas across the country, on DVD and on BFI Player. It is the UK’s biggest ever season of TV and film dedicated to celebrating black actors, and will showcase strong black characters to the widest possible audience.

The Government has announced new available funding for community groups aiming to tackle hate crime

The Government has announced new funding available to community groups who are aiming to prevent hate crime. Hate crimes are any crimes which are motivated by hostility towards a certain race, religion, gender, sexual identity or disability.

This new funding comes after a large rise in hate crime since the Brexit vote, which peaked at nearly a 60% increase in the week following the 23rd of June.

Mike Garrick and Harry Powell are two of the founders of the Lewisham Sports Consortium – who run Firhill Road Sports Ground, a facility in South London which allows people from across London to play football together. Mike and Harry both have footballing backgrounds – with Harry having played professionally for Charlton and other clubs in the 70s, when black players were a rarity in the top division. Now they are dedicated to giving young people the opportunity to play together and have reliable facilities to do so.

On the sweltering hot afternoon of July 19th, Voice4Change spoke to Kevin Coutinho, the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Windsor Fellowship. His charity helps BME people succeed in employment and education.
